United Lutheran Seminary Libraries Homepage

Borrowing Policies for Partner Libraries and Consortia

Many libraries in the Gettysburg and Philadelphia areas allow ULS students to check out materials. A currently valid ULS ID card and a letter of introduction from either the Wentz or Krauth Branch staff must be presented as evidence of affiliation with the seminary. Remember that you must abide by the rules and regulations of these facilities and that you represent ULS while visiting.

Philadelphia Area Partners:

Southeastern Pennsylvania Theological Library Association Institutions are open to students and faculty of United Lutheran Seminary. Among SEPTLA institutions are St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Westminster Theological Seminary, and Palmer Theological Seminary (Eastern University Library). In all cases, a current, valid ID card from ULS and Visiting Patron form-the latter being available at each circulation desk or being requested via email-must be presented each time you visit a member library. Please note that we must abide by the individual consortium library's rules and procedures, and that all borrowed materials must be returned directly to the lending library (not through drop-off at Wentz or Krauth). The Visiting Patron form must be updated and presented new each semester. See the full list of member libraries here

ULS students and faculty have privileges in the libraries of all member seminaries in the Washington Theological Consortium. In all cases, a current, valid ID card from ULS and a Visiting Patron form--the latter being available at both campus library's circulation desks or via email--must be presented each time you visit a member library. Please note that we must abide by the individual consortium library's rules and procedures, and that all borrowed materials must be returned directly to the lending library (not through drop-off at Wentz or Krauth). The Visiting Patron form must be updated and presented new each semester. (Please note that as of September 2024 the Georgetown University library is no longer accessible to members of the Washington Theological Consortium.)

The Free Library of Philadelphia will issue library cards to students during their time in Philadelphia. There are two branches convenient to the Philadelphia campus, as well as many others scattered around the city. The central branch is an excellent research library.

The land on which United Lutheran Seminary sits, and which stretches between its two campuses, is tribal land, inhabited originally by the Lenni Lenape, the Susquehannock, and the Seneca tribes. We honor those original caretakers of this land, and we pay respect to the original inhabitants of what we now call Pennsylvania. Acknowledging this history is consistent with the seminary’s commitment to welcome and equity, which calls us in Christ to repentance, reconciliation, and wholeness. Even though the sad history of colonization cannot be undone, this land acknowledgement is one small way for us to remember what happened here, to understand our part in this story, and to develop a more healthy relationship with the land and its original inhabitants.
